Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to assess residential mortgage loan applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of underwriting guidelines, regulatory compliance, and credit review. This role requires the ability to evaluate loan files thoroughly, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards while minimizing risk. Key Responsibilities: Loan File Review: Ensure mortgage loan packages include all required documentation for a complete and thorough assessment. Credit Assessment: Evaluate all aspects of the credit decision-making process, including underwriting guidelines, income verification, and asset validation. Fraud Detection: Conduct reviews of credit packages and background checks to identify potential fraud risks in mortgage applications. Property Valuation: Review appraisals and alternative valuation products to ensure accuracy and conformity with client standards. Legal Document Review: Examine legal documents to ensure proper execution, enforceability, and adequacy for title perfection. Regulatory Compliance: Collect and analyze regulatory compliance data from loan files for accurate reporting in the due diligence review system. Servicing Review: Review payment histories and servicing notes in line with client expectations and regulatory requirements. Credit Risk Grading: Use the due diligence review system to assign loan quality grades, ensuring alignment with client and credit rating agency standards. Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience: Proven experience in underwriting residential mortgage loans, with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting guidelines and mortgage loan regulatory compliance. Computer Proficiency: Strong knowledge of mortgage review systems and the Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to use relevant software for loan processing. Communication Skills: Excellent written communication skills, especially in documenting and explaining underwriting decisions. Preferred Qualifications: Servicing Review Expertise: Experience with reviewing loan servicing histories is a plus. Familiarity with Credit Rating Standards: Knowledge of credit rating agency review processes is beneficial. Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with a focus on minimizing risk and ensuring accuracy in assessments.
