POSITION: SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER
(Senior
Naval Architect / FULL-TIME) Research and Development LOCATION: KOCHI KERALA, INDIA JOB DESCRIPTION ·
Candidate will be responsible for research and development activities of the society to ensure appropriate development of new services, development and updating of the classification rules for ships and offshore structures for International Register of Shipping. ·
Coordination of experience gained through design appraisal, plan approval of ships / offshore vessels and related surveys, inspections, audits carried out. ·
Participate in plan appraisal and engineering analysis of vessels and offshore structures when required with Technical Appraisal Department. ·
Should be familiar with maritime regulations developed by international organizations IMO , ILO and standards developed by as IACS, ISO, IEC, AWS, NACE, etc., Special attentions to monitor the new international regulations from IMO and their applicable inclusion into INTLREG rules; ·
Take part in the development of new rules for classification of steel vessels including Goal Based Ship construction standards (GBS) of IMO for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers ·
Updating and maintain the classification rules and related guidance/ survey procedures for use of all technical departments and surveyors and other stakeholders who are involved in ship building, modifications or conversions. ·
Support in Technical Publications and the publication of incidents and statistical analysis of trends related to losses and damages within the industries, Development of new products and services for INTLREG or affiliates. ·
Monitor various projects related to rule development or engineering or other services assigned to R&D and act as Project Manager. ·
Supervise other staff in Project team / R&D and monitor various project progress as required. ·
Coordinate with Technical Appraisal Department or other departments related to classification / statutory services in compliance with INTLREG Classification Rules, IMO regulations and Flag administration, providing up to date information and making sure that surveyors, ship-owners/ship managers are meeting the requirements and new amendments. ·
Any other related tasks or project assignment by the management from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS ·
Bachelor’s
or Master’s degree in,
Naval Architecture or Ship Building branches. ·
Knowledge in the Class and Statutory surveys and Maritime Audits, application of maritime conventions and regulations. Should be familiar with the Ship Classification Rules, IMO Codes/conventions and regulations such as SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, MLC, IMSBC, IMDG, IGC, IBC and other maritime technical codes. ·
ISO 9001:2015 Lead auditor qualification is desirable. ·
Must have strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills in English.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE Candidates with experience in any significant combination of the below proficiencies are encouraged to apply for this position:

Minimum 8 – 10 years’ experience as surveyor/specialist/design appraisal engineer in a Classification Society. ·
Experience in a shipping buildings handling classification and statutory compliance of Seagoing/ Offshore vessels or Offshore Structures. ·
Experience in leading design companies involved in new building, conversion of ships and offshore structures ·
Candidates with higher qualifications and longer experience may be considered for department in charge position.
